Sunday 6th August - The Lifeboat Competition
The last of our charity support opens for 2017 was beset by a pessimistic weather forecast that turned out to be disappointingly accurate. Heavy rain arriving late in the morning drove many of those who had started mid morning back to the warmth of the clubhouse and of the 15 who played only 5 managed to complete the round, the final two in wetsuits and flippers and a semi submersible buggy! Early starter John Dick made the most of his weather window to win with a nett 64.
1st John Dick (14) - 64 and lowest gross
2nd David Brookens (11) - 68
3rd John Pennycott (13) - 69
4th Ronnie Mann (13) - 72
CSS went out to its maximum of 66 and there were magic twos from Alan Foggo at the 4th and from Stan Rainey at the 17th. A big thanks to our regular visitors from Carlisle, the Friars Tavern Golfing Society, who visit every year and always make a healthy donation to ‘The Lifeboat’. They generously sponsored ‘Nearest the Hole’ at the 4th and the 17th - won by Alan Foggo and Stan Rainey respectively - and further cash was given to augment our own funds raised in this worthy cause. Many thanks guys and hopefully see you next year in better weather.
