Tam Young

Tam Young

Members and friends will be saddened to hear of the passing on 22nd December of Tam Young. Tam had a long and happy association with the club having held membership since coming to the island regularly for family holidays. In his younger days a rugby player of national renown, his working life was eclectic to say the least but when finally he managed to put such things behind him he and Myra settled well into retirement at Whiting Bay where friends and family were regular visitors. Around the club Tam was popular and gregarious with a ready fund of jokes and stories that entertained all who heard them. Until 2015 he was a hard working member of the committee holding the posts of house convener and then vice captain, his progression to the captaincy being de-railed only by his declining health. He will be very much missed at WBGC and our thoughts at this sad time are with Myra, Gregor and Vivianne and the rest of his loving family.

Saturday 2nd December - Prizegiving Evening

A big thank you to all who turned up for our 2017 Prizegiving evening in the clubhouse. It was nice to see the clubhouse and bar busy at a time when there are so many competing social events going on. We had a great evening and club captain Wolfi Kroner proved a more than able master of ceremonies, entertaining and educational; who among us would have guessed there are so many different ways to pronounce “quaich”?

Unfortunately not all prizewinners could join us in person, but in this digital age we were fortunate in having a video link direct to Hollywood (should read Bolton) from where David Hackett (plasterer to the gentry) was able to virtually receive the McNicol Cup, graciously accepted on his behalf in the clubhouse by his nominee Gege Kroner.  Here’s a club champion Danny Head with the championship trophy and some of the many others he has won in a fabulous golfing year and a group pic of all the other winners and their cups, shields, keechs etc.
