On one of the rare occasions we managed to stage the Captain’s Prize on its appointed date, 18 players enjoyed a mixed Stableford from the yellow and red tees. The rain that was forecast to come in around lunchtime helpfully held off until later in the afternoon and the only hindrances to decent scoring were wet underfoot conditions and a stiff breeze. Scoring was good with the top two players separated by a last three holes countback, each on 40 points.
1st Gavin Mainds (3) – 40 acb
2nd Stan Rainey (13) – 40
3rd Cameron Bruce (16) – 39
The top lady golfer was Trish Tait on 30 points
Grateful thanks to WBGC captain Doreen Mainds who provided a generous array of prizes, including her renowned Tartan Tablet, and hosted the clubhouse celebrations with aplomb. A real fun day.
Due to a poor weather forecast, the Masters Par 3 competition originally scheduled for 13th April will now take place on
It’s intended to be a family friendly day so hopefully the traditional Arran May heatwave will give us some family friendly weather.
The few hardy souls that turned out for this did well to stay upright on a morning of ferocious winds. The wind might also have broken the internet as we found we had no access to the Scottish Golf system in the clubhouse so detailed scores will follow later. The winner though was undoubtedly Stan Rainey who managed to put a fair margin between himself and the nearest challenger with a score of 37 points. That would have been good under any conditions but on this occasion, exceptional.
1st Stan Rainey (15) – 37points
2nd Graeme Crichton (16) – 32 acb
3rd David Blair (12) – 32
4th John Pennycott (15) – 30
One two returned by David Morrison at the 14th
For the first of our summer competitions the weather was kind with a beautiful morning for golf. 16 played and found the course conditions tricky with only the winner, Markus Kroner, managing to beat par in the Stableford format.
1st Markus Kroner (3) – 38 points
2nd John Pennycott (16) – 31 acb
3rd Jamie Macpherson (5) – 31 acb
4th Dave Hackett (13) – 31
2s were returned by Colin Nisbet at the 2nd, Gavin Mainds at the 11th and Danny Head at the 17th.
