Gavin Mainds wins the 2023 Summer Trophy with the best 6 net scores.
Now a well established favourite in our annual fixtures, the “Wolfi” once again drew a good crowd of friends and supporters for the fun format with competitions for gents, ladies and juniors. The day is not do much about golf as remembering our much missed friend and while detailed results are available on the club’s website it’s enough here to give a summary. In the men’s event Dave Hackett, playing off 15, went one better than Gordon Maclachlan’s winning score of last year by carding an astonishing 44 points – that’s 2 under 4s gross by the way – to win by a 6 point margin. Dave’s son Fraser, prevailed in the junior competition with 31 points while in the ladies event, Lynda Blair, playing off 20, won by 4 points with an impressive score of 38.
All in all a great day’s golfing fun and thanks are due once again to Gege and the family for their support and to them and the many other donors for providing a generous array of prizes both for the golf and for the fun raffle/auction that followed.
Thanks also to all who participated and to Stuart and George for once again setting up the course in such excellent condition.
After the disappointing weather of July and August, and the wet weather for last years Bannatyne, the September heatwave brought a welcome change. The course was in fine shape with the greens, by common consent the best they have ever been, running straight and fast and perhaps contributing to the level of scoring. Net par was no mean feat and that was what Ronnie Mann and Stan Rainey achieved with Ronnie just edging first place on a back nine countback.
1st Ronnie Mann (13) – 63 acb
2nd Stan Rainey (14) – 63
3rd David Morrison (10) – 65
4th Sean Higgins (21) – 66
Gavin Mainds’s 66 was the lowest gross score of the day and Ronnie Mann scored the only 2 of the day at the 17th.
