25 played in this popular Stableford and following the recent spell of dry weather enjoyed a course in fine condition for April. Scoring was good with 19 of the field scoring 30 points or more, more than satisfactory considering the fast greens and playing from the back tees. Top of the list was Neillie McKechnie who carded 40 points to win by 2 from Nicol Auld
1st Nellie McKechnie (11) – 40 points
2nd Nicol Auld (4) – 38 acb
2nd Jamie Macpherson (5) – 38 acb
4th Gordon McLachlan (21) – 38
Ryan Armstrong scored the only 2 of the day on the 2nd green.
The early season work done on the greens and fairways is really making a difference now and the coming summer months should provide us with some fine golfing opportunities.
In the latest round of the Kiscadale, WBGC ladies achieved another fine victory, this time against Shiskine GC ladies. Doreen Mainds and Charlie Taylor battled out an exciting halved match on the 18th green while Gillian Lockhart and Lynda Blair achieved a comprehensive 5 & 4 win.
Well played ladies. This result leaves WBGC on top of the leaderboard with 7 points but with tough matches still to play.
Sunday 23rd April – Captain’s Day
The decision to postpone Captain’s Day by a week due to inclement weather proved to be a wise one as a field of 27 players enjoyed a fine morning’s golf and superb hospitality in the clubhouse afterwards. The day being more about fun than serious golf we played a Stableford from the yellow and red tees that was a ‘non counter’ for handicap purposes and perhaps the relaxed atmosphere helped to generate some fine scoring with the top 9 players beating par figures and the top three bettering 40 points. Winner on the day was Dougie Auld whose 43 points just beat Neil “Sonic” Lucas on 42. Charlie Taylor came in as top lady golfer on 37 points, the highlight of her round being a fine 2 at the par 4 15th.
Grateful thanks to WBGC captain Doreen Mainds who provided a generous array of prizes, as well as her renowned Tartan Tablet, and hosted the clubhouse celebrations with aplomb. A real fun day.
Winner of the Captain’s Prize for 2023 – Dougie Auld and here’s a selection of photos of players on the day
