25 played in the first round of the McKelvie Cup, one of the qualifying rounds for our club championship knockout stages. The benign weather conditions were offset to some extent by the course which, although dry and running, required very careful shotmaking around the greens. Scoring was decent rather than spectacular, emphasised by the fact that only one 2 was returned.
1st Gus MacLeod (14) – 61 acb
2nd Gavin Mainds (6) – 61 and lowest gross
3r3d Sean Higgins (23) – 62 acb
4th David Brookens (13) – 62
Robert McNaught scored the only 2 of the day at the 17th hole
Another beautiful golfing day for the trophy named for our long serving club secretary of many years ago. As the years go by fewer of our members have a direct connection with Betty’s era so for the 2022 iteration of her trophy it was nice to see two of them topping the leaderboard. Well done John Rankin and Stuart Paterson. 31played.
1st John Rankin (10) – 60 and lowest scratch score
2nd Stuart Paterson (14) – 61
3rd Robert McNaught (12) – 63
4th Liam Bremner (18) – 64
Dave Hackett and David Blair score the only 2s of the day at the 2nd and 17th respectively.
17 hardy souls endured a miserable time of it for the last of our charity support opens of 2022. Sneakily, the persistent rain waited until most players had started before making itself felt for the rest of the morning. Anyone scoring in the 30 point plus bracket did very well and the 5 who did so have every reason to be proud of themselves. John Pennycott, in returning 36 points, topped that elite group to win by 1 point from Stan Rainey.
1st John Pennycott (14) – 36 points
2nd Stan Rainey (12) – 35
3rd Craig Simpson (8) – 32
4th Stewart Hammond (28) – 31
Unsurprisingly there were no 2s returned.
31 ladies played in slightly challenging windy but sunny weather. The course was in fabulous condition and our thanks must go to Stuart for rising at 5am to cut the greens! The competition was a stableford format and in 1st place was Ann May on 33 points, 2nd was Lynda Blair & 3rd acb was Flora Jean Mack. An enjoyable evening was had by all with sponsored prizes at every hole and a successful raffle raising just under £1000 for club funds. Our ladies would like to thank one and all for their generous donation
